Intravenous IgG therapy refers to the infusion of a solution of concentrated, purified immunoglobulins (IgG) into the circulatory system of a patient. IgGs are disease-fighting antibodies found in human blood that help to ward off harmful bacteria, viruses and other pathogens. IgGs may also contain various anti-cancer activities. These may work directly on a cancer or enlist and expand the patient's own defenses against the tumor.
Intravenous IgG products are manufactured using plasma collected from a large numbers of healthy donor individuals. All donors and their plasma undergo rigorous screenings and testing. Intravenous IgG is commonly used to treat certain autoimmune diseases and blood disorders and to provide antibodies to individuals unable to produce them. Extensive use over a period of 20+ years has demonstrated that Intravenous IgG is a safe, non-toxic therapy with virtually no side effects.
